New Year’s resolutions always get a bad rap

Even in your personal history, you will find (if we are being brutally honest) that resolutions are painfully unsustainable.
For instance, during the first week of January, the gym is packed with folks who want to get fit. Like clockwork however, come the end of January, 90% of those people will fall off the wagon. We’re not faulting these people. That’s just the way things are!
But what if we re-wrote the script and chose goals that are smaller, doable and which make sense?
And better yet, what if those goals involved our skin?
It is possible to have better skin in 2019.

It won’t happen overnight.

But you can get there by following the simple steps we will share in this post consistently.

Are you ready to have your best skin ever in 2019?

Here are seven simple New year’s resolutions for your skin.

  1. Drink more water. Drinking water carries many benefits and we have talked about why you need to drink more water for your skin health here. One of the biggest benefits of drinking more water is that it can slow down wrinkles. When your skin is dry, it becomes tight and flaky. Your skin cells lose their firmness and this can lead to the development of wrinkles prematurely.
  2. Consume more Vitamin C. Vitamin C is excellent for your skin because it is well known to help with wound healing. In fact, one of the standard treatments given to patients who have suffered bad burns is a large dose of Vitamin C. By consuming more Vitamin C, you are setting up your system to heal quickly from wounds you sustain. Your gums and immune system also benefit greatly from Vitamin C.
  3. Pick a regimen and stick to it. If you are ready to enjoy better skin in 2019, it is important that you pick a skin regimen and stick to it. Of course, if there is absolutely a need to change an element of your skincare regimen because your skin does not agree with ingredients in a product, you should change them. However, it is impossible to see any benefit a specific regimen gives your skin if you have not tried it for at least 30 days. Thus, trying one thing this week and another thing next week is not going to cut it.
  4. Keep your skin moisturized. We mentioned drinking water as an excellent way to keep your skin moisturized. Using lotions and oils on your skin (if you don’t already have oily skin) are beneficial in keeping your skin moisturized. Using lotion right after the shower and throughout the course of the day will help you maintain that moisture all day long.
  5. Get more sleep. Surprisingly, at least one out of three adults in the US reports that they don’t get enough sleep at night. A lack of sleep will not just reduce your productivity at work. It also has the potential to make you look tired all the time. Eventually, the exhaustion will take a toll on your skin. Get the sleep you need so that you can reap the benefits of all the other skincare habits you will be implementing.
  6. Use sunscreen. It will keep UV rays from damaging your skin. It helps that most sunscreens also contain moisturizers.
  7. Skin issue not resolving? See your dermatologist. You don’t have to wait for a skin issue to become severe before you go and see your dermatologist. One of the myths that keep people away from the dermatologist’s office is this: seeing a dermatologist is expensive. There are a lot of skin conditions and procedures that are covered by your health insurance. Seeing a dermatologist for skin issues is not different than going to see another specialist doctor for another organ in your body when it comes to your health insurance. So at the very least, ask!
