Psoriasis Overview & Research

Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune disease of the skin characterized by well circumscribed, erythematous, scaly plaques. It is frequently found on the scalp, elbows, knees, and buttocks, but can affect any area body. The disease is life-long and may present at any age. The severity of psoriasis varies from person to person in both area of involvement and symptoms.
Psoriasis is believed to have a genetic component and is neither infectious nor contagious. Triggers that cause psoriasis to worsen, include stress, cold weather, sunburn, trauma and various medications.
