Lupus
"The Great Imitator"
by

MD
Lupus
is a chronic disease that may damage the skin, or
other parts of the body (joints, and/or organs
inside the body). It is an autoimmune disease,
meaning that the immune system that normally
fights off germs and bacteria begins to attack and
destroy normal healthy tissue. Discoid lupus
erythematous (DLE) is a form of lupus that only
affects the skin. It is characterized by skin
plaques with varying swelling and redness,
surrounded by a raised, inflamed border. The
plaques usually occur on the face and scalp, but
may be anywhere on the body.
